What is the difference between mkdir SANTA and mkdir -p file/file/file/SANTA?

what is the difference between mkdir SANTA and mkdir -p file/file/file/SANTA ??

Well, I do know that mdkir SANTA will create a directory called “SANTA” as a subdirectory of the one you are currently in. That second version seems to be creating the directory in another spot-- but I am unfamiliar with (-p). Does the (-p) take it back to the root directory?

Either way, I think it’s just another way to suggest what directory to place the new directory inside.
